The chapter is titled “Basic Science”
I wonder if he found it easy to learn the “basics”
or if he balked the first time he read it
just as I had done.
Lives were saved by his knowledge and his work.
I find myself wondering if he enjoyed it
learning the minutiae of the human body
before applying this comprehension
whilst wearing bloody scrubs.
My sister used to tell people at school
that our Dad cut people’s legs off for a living.
A nightmarish description for such a respected job.
But now he is gone,
and we are left with wounds no textbook could describe,
and nobody to cut the pain from our souls.
