Menagerie

throwing the occasional rock in my direction,

he stood, posturing tall and proud.

I wonder if he’s mimicking his father.

His chocolate eyes twinkle with mischief.

He knows the rocks won’t hit me.

He just wants to form a connection

with someone on the other side of the glass.
